Baby Ain't a Baby Anymore, written by Jeff Walter and Olin Murrell, captured first place in the country category of the Austin Songwriters Guild's 1996 songwriting competition.

Horse Thieves and Moonshiners, which Walter wrote with Nelda Sisk, captured first place in the SongCraft Song Contest 2001. (Another Walter-Sisk collaboration, These Golden Fields, garnered an honorable mention in the same contest.)

Most recently, A Little Bit of Sweet, written with Effron White and Phil Lancaster, captured second place in the Oklahoma Songwriters & Composers Association's 2003 One Plus One Songwriting Contest and also was a finalist in the Unisong International Song Contest 2003.
