Jack and Jenny Music was founded by Jeff Walter, an award-winning songwriter and a member of BMI, the Songwriters Guild of America, Nashville Songwriters Association and the Nashville Publishers Network. Walter, a native Kentuckian who just happened to be born in West Virginia, also has worked extensively as an author, journalist, freelance writer and editor.
After making regular trips to Nashville for a couple of years, Walter began living there on a part-time basis in May 1996, commuting weekly from his then home of Lexington, Kentucky. In August 1998 he became a full-time resident of Nashville, and the following year he started Jack and Jenny Music, which he named after his parents. The publishing company was created to pitch songs written or co-written by Walter; however, as Jeff became more and more active in the business, he began expanding his scope. Jack and Jenny Music now represents songs from a growing number of writers, including Susan Anders, Deborah Berwyn, Carol Hashe, Sonia Lee, Bill Maier, Olin Murrell, Marty Rainone, Nelda Sisk, Susan Smith, AJ Yuill, Julie Zeitlin, Deb Zemke and others.
Meanwhile, Walter continues to expand his core of co-writers, some of whom already have found a measure of success in both country and pop music. Walter's co-writers have had songs recorded by artists including Buddy Jewell, Chris Young, Patti LaBelle, Sarah Brightman, Kenny G, Phil Vassar, Collin Raye, Lara Fabian, the Statler Brothers, Anne Murray, Johnny Lee, Dion, and Jason and the Scorchers, among others.
